Higher education studies are measured in credits (opintopiste (Finnish) / studiepoäng (Swedish)). Study courses are quantified according to the work load required. One year of studies is equivalent to 1,600 hours of student work on the average and is defined as 60 credits. The first-cycle university of applied sciences degrees at VAMK consists of 210 or 240 credits which equals 3.5 to 4 years of full-time studying depending on the study field. The first-cycle university of applied sciences degree is called ammattikorkeakoulututkinto (Finnish) / yrkeshögskoleexamen (Swedish). The English translation for the degree is Bachelor’s degree. The Diploma Supplement is issued in English, free of charge, to every student upon graduation.
The studies consist of Basic Studies and Professional Basic Studies, Specialised Professional Studies, Optional Studies, Practical Training and a Thesis.
The second-cycle university of applied sciences degree at VAMK consists of 60 or 90 credits which equals 2 to 3 years of part-time studying depending on the study field. The second-cycle university of applied sciences degree is called ylempi ammattikorkeakoulututkinto (Finnish) / högre yrkeshögskoleexamen (Swedish). The English translation for the degree is Master’s degree.
After completing your polytechnic Bachelor's degree and gaining three years of work experience, you can apply to a two-year polytechnic Master’s degree programme. VAMK offers three degree programmes leading to a polytechnic Master's degree:
- Entrepreneurship and Business Competence (in Finnish)
- Development and Management within Health Care (in Finnish)
- Project Management (in English)
The Diploma Supplement is issued in English, free of charge, to every student upon graduation.
After completing a polytechnic Bachelor’s degree, you can further develop your skills in many ways. VAMK offers specialisation studies and other continuing education in Finnish which can be completed alongside normal work.
