    Benefits

    A whole new Li-ion battery industry is gaining momentum in Vaasa, Ostrobothnia, and in Nordics. A battery is so much more than a black box which holds charge. Basically, all of the properties of a battery is determined by its chemistry – what it is made of.

    In this course you will

    • learn about battery active materials and various Li-ion battery chemistries
    • understand the pros, cons and limitations of different battery materials and what is a suitable application for each battery chemistry.

    Target Group

    • Energy/environmental/electrical engineering students or graduates.
    • Prerequisite knowledge and skills: High school chemistry or equivalent knowledge.

    Learning Outcomes

    After completion of this course you will

    • understand what materials are applied as positive electrode, negative electrode, and as an electrolytes
    • understand what are the state of the art materials and their pros and cons
    • have information of future directions, and what challenges are yet to be solved
    • be able to critically evaluate e.g. the news about new battery materials.
