Two Higher University of Applied Sciences Degrees for VAMK

The Ministry of Education has passed a resolution on the higher university of applied sciences degrees in the year 2006. Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu (VAMK), University of Applied Sciences, has been granted the following degree programmes which will start in 2006:

Social Sciences, Business Economics and Administration
The Higher University of Applied Sciences Degree in Business Economics, The Degree Programme of Entrepreneurship and Business Know-how, Title Master of Business Administration (higher university of applied sciences degree), scope 90 cp.

Health Care, Social Services and Sports Studies 
The Higher University of Applied Sciences Degree in Health Care and Social Services, The Degree Programme of Development and Management of Health Care, title Nurse (higher university of applied sciences degree), scope 90 cp

University of Applied Sciences graduates can deepen their professional skills after gaining experience in working life by taking a higher university of applied sciences degree. The general objectives of the studies leading to a higher university of applied sciences degree are to provide the student with:

1) extensive and profound knowledge required in the development of working life in the field in question and required theoretic knowledge for working in demanding expert and management tasks 
2) a profound picture of the field in question, of its status  in working life and social significance as well as an ability to follow up and analyse the research data and occupational practises in the field
3) abilities for lifelong learning and constant professional development
4) good communication and language skills required in working life, and
5) abilities required in international interaction and professional operation

The entrance requirements for studies leading to a higher university of applied sciences degree are, in addition to the basic university of applied sciences degree or other applicable degree, three years of relevant work experience. A relevant title and the specification ‘higher university of applied sciences degree' will be enclosed with the higher university of applied sciences degree.
The scope of the higher degree programmes is one academic year at minimum and a year and half at maximum, measured as full-time studies. The Ministry of Education decides the degree programmes to be commenced on the basis of the proposals from the universities of applied sciences.
