AIMday focused on Intelligent and Secure Energy System Integration

Vaasa University of Applied Sciences’ first AIMday event on November 28, 2025, brought together companies, experts, and students to discuss the challenges of future energy and industrial systems and to seek solutions for sustainable and secure energy system development.

The theme of the day was Intelligent and Secure Energy System Integration, and the discussions combined perspectives from electrical and automation engineering, mechanical and energy engineering, as well as business administration. Representatives from various companies, along with experts and students from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, were present to share knowledge, network, and build collaboration.

“AIMday concept offers companies, experts, and students a unique way to network and share their perspectives. A win-win situation from every angle. Our event received extremely positive feedback from participants, who returned to their work enriched with many new ideas. We will continue organising AIMday events at VAMK at least twice a year,” says Mari Pohjanniemi, Smart Indutry Research Area Manager from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.

An opportunity to share knowledge and to network

The event consisted of “one question, one hour” workshops, where about five to ten people gathered to openly discuss a predefined topic.

“This was truly beneficial, and the discussions were thought-provoking. All the topics were very interesting, so it was a bit difficult to decide which discussion groups to join. I will definitely participate again and highly recommend it to others,” says Vaasan Sähkö’s Technical Specialist Henri Alasaari.

In the workshops, knowledge and ideas were exchanged, and new approaches to various challenges were explored.

“We participated in an interesting session where we discussed sustainable business models and energy markets. Although energy markets are quite new to us, I feel that we definitely contributed to the discussion, especially by bringing a younger perspective. The concept works really well, and I absolutely recommend joining such an event,” say second-year International Business students Sohvi Sanaksenaho and Man Ly.

Networking with representatives from different companies and VAMK experts was an important part of the event.
“The discussions were interesting, and it was nice to network with people from other companies. It was great that students were involved, there could have been even more of them. The best part was making new contacts,” says Linus Kolam, Business Development Manager, Tekniq Oy.

“The best part was getting to know people from different companies and hearing their thoughts. I believe the concept also gave companies new perspectives,” says Toni Takalo, Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Automation Engineering from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.

AIMday concept

Academic Industry Meeting Day i.e. AIMday, developed by Uupsala University, connects universities and companies to solve current challenges with low threshold. Vaasa University of Applied Sciences is the first university in Finland to implement the concept.
