How to reach Vaasa

Arriving from Abroad:

Most visitors first arrive in Helsinki (the capital). From there, Vaasa is easy to reach:

  • By Air: Flights from Helsinki (HEL) to Vaasa (VAA) take about 1 hour. The airport is 10 minutes from the city center by taxi or bus.
  • By Train: Comfortable trains from Helsinki to Vaasa take around 4 hours (www.vr.fi).
  • By Bus: Long-distance buses (OnniBus, Matkahuolto) connect Helsinki and other major cities.

Local Transport:

Vaasa’s city buses (Vaasan Paikallisliikenne) are efficient and easy to use. Tickets can be bought via the Waltti app or from the driver. Vaasa is compact, so walking and cycling are great options for short stays.

Entry to Finland

For short-term visits (under 90 days):

  • EU/EEA citizens: No visa required. Bring your ID or passport.
  • Non-EU/EEA citizens: Check if your country is on Finland’s visa-free list at migri.fi. Otherwise, apply for a short-term (Schengen) visa.
