Collaboration with Al Akhawayn University in Morocco

Moroccan Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to start close collaboration in education, research and innovation.

The agreement was signed in the beginning of December when the Dean of Technology, Professor Salah Al-Majeed and Student Transition Project Manager Najlaa Sabir visited Vaasa. The agreement represents a significant step forward in strengthening global cooperation between the two institutions.

During the visit in Vaasa Mr. Al-Majeed and Ms. Sabir met with the President, CEO Hannu Vahtera, RDI Director Marja-Riitta Vest from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences as well as representatives from VAMK’s School of Technology and School of Business.

Discussions about the next steps in the collaboration in research, development and innovation (RDI) activities as well as on how to implement Blended Intensive Programmes (BIDs) were fruitful. Student and Staff Mobility possibilities to promote active involvement between students and faculty members were also discussed with Head of International Affairs, Tuija Tammi.

During their visit, the guests had the opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratory, Technobothnia, showcasing the modern facilities that support cutting-edge education and innovation. The visit to Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub offered the guests valuable insight into the local business ecosystem and demonstrated how companies and universities in the region work hand in hand to drive collaboration and innovation.

“We are thrilled with the success of the visit and the formalisation of this MoU. This collaboration paves the way for remarkable opportunities for both students and faculty, establishing a solid platform for future partnerships in education, research, and innovation,” says Vest.

Concrete collaboration initiatives are already planned for the coming spring. Both Al Akhaway and VAMK look forward the collaboration and creating new opportunities that benefit students, staff, and the wider academic community.
