Infrastructures for green transisition in the centre at EnergyWeek

Vaasa University of Applied Sciences played again a central role as one of the premium partners, with three own seminars and involved in many other seminars in EnergyWeek2026. The event provided interesting opportunities for networking, conversations and collaboration with industry stakeholders.

EnergyWeek is the most significant international energy sector event in the Nordic countries, attracting thousands of people interested in the energy field from both Finland and abroad.

In the seminars organised by Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, which celebrated its anniversary year, the focus was on infrastructure enabling the green transition: the role of hydrogen as a clean energy solution, the importance of a flexible electricity grid, and the low-carbon transformation of industry as part of sustainable growth.

The week held many interesting conversations and encounters.

Energy Academy’s roasting was probably the most entertaining event of the week. In the event university students challenged company and university representatives with future oriented questions.

International student week

VAMKin koordinoima, ensimmäistä kertaa EnergyWeekin yhteydessä järjestetty opiskelijoiden energia-aiheinen viikko kokosi yhteen ruotsalaisia, marokkolaisia, espanjalaisia ja suomalaisia opiskelijoita opettajineen.

As part of EnergyWeek 2026 VAMK organised and hosted an International Student Program. The Program brought together energy engineering students and teachers from Finland, Marocco and Sweden.

During the week, the participants had an opportunity to get to know Vaasa regions leading energy technology ecosystem. The students had a possibility to attend EnergyWeek events, expert sessions, and panel discussions focusing on renewable energy, energy storage, clean gas solutions, and climate-smart technologies. In a visit to Wärtsilä’s Sustainable Technology Hub students were introduced to cutting edge energy technologies and gained real-time insights into the global green transition.

Highlights of the week included the Start Up Factory session with innovation expert Jeff Wallace sharing his perspectives on entrepreneurship and how new ideas can evolve into impactful opportunities.

One full day was dedicated to a guided hackathon at the Technobothnia research and teaching laboratory where students worked in international teams on practical engineering challenges involving battery technologies, 3D printing, power systems, and other applied tasks.

“This exceptional collaboration combined VAMK’s partnership with Al Akhawayn University and the cooperation between VAMK, Novia, and Mid Sweden University that originated through the Kvarken Council’s UniCollab project,” tells VAMK’s RDI Director Marja-Riitta Vest.

The students were also able to relax and network with fellow students in a gathering organised by VAMOK.

”The student week was a huge success, and we will continue the concept next year. Strengthening international collaboration is very important for us,” says Vest.
