Marita Ahola appointed Director of Tritonia Academic Library
MA Marita Ahola has been appointed Director of Tritonia. She will start in the position on 7 December 2026. Tritonia is the joint academic library of the University of Vaasa, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK), and Novia University of Applied Sciences, providing library, information and open science services to their academic communities.
Ahola brings extensive experience in the leadership of library, cultural and information services. She joins Tritonia from Turku University of Applied Sciences, where she has served as Head of Information Services. Previously, she worked as Director of Cultural and Library Services for the City of Vaasa. Before that, she served as Library Director at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, and following the integration of the library into Tritonia, she worked as Tritonia’s Head of Services and Deputy Director.
“The Director of Tritonia plays a key role in supporting research, education and learning, as well as in developing library and information services. Marita Ahola brings extensive experience in academic libraries, information services and their management. Her broad expertise and thorough understanding of Tritonia’s operating environment provide an excellent foundation for the further development of the library and the advancement of open science services together with the staff and partner higher education institutions,” says Mika Grundström, Vice Rector of the University of Vaasa.
As Director of Tritonia, Ahola will be responsible for the library’s operations, finances and strategic development.
“I am particularly pleased and grateful to have been appointed Director of Tritonia. It is exciting to have the opportunity to develop a modern academic library at a time when the importance of digitalisation, artificial intelligence and open science continues to grow. Misinformation, disinformation and information influence activities highlight the importance of critical literacy, information literacy and research-based knowledge, and libraries have much to contribute in addressing these challenges. I look forward to further developing Tritonia as an increasingly user-oriented library that is more closely integrated into the activities of higher education institutions and actively supports learning, research and development,” Ahola says.
Tritonia Academic Library is a separate unit of the University of Vaasa that provides library, information and open science services for the University of Vaasa, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences. Tritonia operates in Vaasa and Jakobstad (Pietarsaari) and is an academic library open to all.
