The higher education institutions’ Opin.fi service offers study paths for all learners

Launched in spring 2025, the Opin.fi service brings together all open studies offered by Finnish higher education institutions in one place. The service is intended for people who want to develop their skills before degree studies or for working life. Vaasa University of Applied Sciences is involved in the project.

The publication of results from the matriculation examination and autumn’s joint application can evoke a wide range of emotions. Many young people are now asking themselves what they should do next if they did not get a study place or they are still looking for the right direction. This year, a new and comprehensive solution is available for their situation: the joint Opin.fi service launched in spring 2025, which brings together the open studies offered by Finnish higher education institutions in a single location for the first time.

”We in Vaasa University of Applied Sciences take part in this national project and offer our contribution to building the future of young people in our region. Opin.fi provides young people and to those who wish to develop their competence a concrete and easy option for finding high-quality open studies they can complete before starting degree studies, or for developing their competence with the world of work in mind,” says Sanna Valliaro, Vice President for Education at VAMK.

VAMK develops future learning

Opin.fi allows you to browse a wide range of open studies and filter searches based on your needs such as the topic, form of study or credits. Current study modules that open up new perspectives are provided under the umbrella of inspiring themes. When you find suitable studies, you can register for them directly in the relevant higher education institution’s service.

The service is intended for everyone who wants to develop their competence, seek new skills, complement their education or familiarise themselves with higher education studies.

“Continuous learning is essential in today’s world of work, and Opin.fi makes it more accessible for everyone. Through Opin.fi, Vaasa University of Applied Sciences can offer flexible study opportunities for both young and more experienced experts who wish to update their skills or find a new direction. At the moment, we offer a diverse range of content from business administration to sustainable development and AI-related themes,” tells Sirpa Kaustinen, Continuous Learning Specialist at VAMK.

The offer of studies in Opin.fi will expand continuously as it is joined in 2025 by all 37 Finnish higher education institutions involved in its development. The higher education institutions’ joint Digivisio 2030 project is responsible for building and developing the service, while it is operated by HigherEd Hub Finland Oy.
