Campus Festival Opens the Academic Year for All Students in Vaasa

On September 10th, Vaasa Campus Festival warmly welcomes both new and returning university students to the city and the new academic year for the sixth time.

Vaasa city centre will be filled with students as the festival gates open at the Market Square on 10.9.2025 at 4:30 PM. The opening festival is organised, already for the sixth time, in collaboration by all universities and universities of applied sciences in Vaasa; Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, University of Vaasa, Hanken, Novia, Åbo Akademi, and University of Helsinki, along with their student unions and the City of Vaasa. The event is free and open to everyone. The entire area is licensed to serve alcohol, which means the age limit is 18.

“In just a short time, Campus Festival has become a highly anticipated tradition for the entire student community in Vaasa. We want to emphasise that Vaasa is home to thousands of students from across Finland and around the world, and this event brings everyone together to kick off the academic year in a positive spirit, says Sami Korpela, Event Specialist at VAMOK, the Student Union of Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.

International and Finnish Top Artists on Stage

The evening program features both Finnish and international performers, appealing to the whole student community. The afternoon starts with Vaasa-based entertainer DJ SBN and rising local artist Wewwe. Later in the evening the new star of pop, Kiki, smooth R&B-inspired rapper Bizi, and the Norwegian duo Søte og Rare Gutter, who have gained success in both Norway and Sweden will take the stage. The evening will be crowned by student generation favourite Pikku G, known for his numerous hit songs from years past.

As in previous years, the festival area offers plenty of fun activities such as a bouncy castle and sumo wrestling, along with games, raffles, and a wheel of fortune organised by partners.

“There’s lots to do even between the artist performances! Hungry festivalgoers are also taken care of, with treats such as Vaasa’s nightlife classic, dill macaroni”, Korpela notes.

As in past years, thousands of students are expected to enjoy the festival atmosphere. Entry to the festival area is at the Lower Square, near the Citymarket corner.

“Make sure to arrive early because the first nearly 3,000 visitors will receive the sought-after Vaasa Campus Festival overall patch”, Korpela reminds.
