Relay Testing

What it’s about:

With the RTP simulator, secondary devices such as protective relays and measuring instruments can be tested by simulating their real operating environment as accurately as possible. The simulator can determine the behavior of the device being tested in specific fault or special situations, as well as any potential variation in performance, such as the average across hundreds of repetitions.

The RTP equipment is suitable for testing the operation of individual relays as well as systems comprising multiple relays.

To whom:

  • For all companies and other organizations

Outcome:

  • Reliable measurement results and test report
Signal sources:
  • Recordings obtained from PSCAD simulations
  • COMTRADE format recordings (e.g., fault recordings)
  • Freely programmable parameters, such as harmonics, phase angles, amplitudes, frequencies, and DC components
Device information:
  • 12 freely programmable analog channels, +/- 10 V
  • 16 digital input channels
  • 6 digital output channels
  • 8 current amplifiers with current ranges: 0–0.2 Arms, 0–2 Arms, 0–10 Arms, and 0–25 Arms
  • 8 voltage amplifiers (0–175 Vrms)
Studies conducted with the RTP simulator equipment:
  • Testing the accuracy of energy measurement function blocks
  • Impact of saturating current transformers on selectivity in short-circuit situations
  • Testing a ring network using LON-based interlocks
