Project description

The project develops comprehensive solutions for energy storage and management in buildings as part of the green transition. The Kiinteistöakku2030 project supports energy efficiency and carbon neutrality by providing technical, economic, and environmentally friendly operating models for the introduction of property batteries. The work focuses on researching and piloting battery systems, developing new battery modules and energy management systems (EMS), and drawing up guidelines for safe installation and use. In addition, the project provides up-to-date information on international markets and legislation and ensures the widespread implementation of the results through a nationwide tour.

Goals

The goals of the project are:

  • To develop technical solutions and prototypes for the use of property batteries.
  • To conduct an international comparison of markets, technologies, and regulations.
  • To create a browser-based profitability calculator and open business models (e.g., leasing, joint ownership).
  • To assess environmental impacts through comprehensive life cycle assessment and promote eco-design.
  • Implement the results and networking opportunities through a nationwide roadshow.

Results

The project outputs include a prototype for the use of property batteries and related installation and safety instructions that support the safe implementation of the systems. In addition, an open report on international markets and best practices has been prepared, providing valuable information on developments and regulations in the field. From an economic perspective, a browser-based profitability calculator and three different business models have been developed to facilitate the planning of battery investments. To assess the environmental impact, the project has carried out a comprehensive life cycle assessment, examining more than fifteen indicators and comparing the properties of different battery chemistries from an eco-design perspective. To implement the results, a national roadshow was organized in five locations, where pilot solutions were presented and networking opportunities were created for industry players.
