Project description
PaJarvis aims to explore and develop a new AI-driven system that supports manufacturing operations, production management and daily work tasks in machine shops. The project integrates generative AI, company-specific knowledge bases and machine learning tools into a unified platform that enables users to interact with the system through natural language—both speech and text. PaJarvis can provide guidance, generate work instructions and retrieve production-related information. The project is carried out in close collaboration with companies and four educational and research institutions, combining applied research with practical pilot cases in real industrial environments. Companies receive concrete demonstrations and validated examples of how AI can improve quality, efficiency and safety in manufacturing. The project will produce a research-based PaJarvis prototype, training materials and new operating models that support the responsible adoption of AI in industry.
Goals
- The project’s primary objective is to enhance and develop the renewal capacity of Finnish SMEs by boosting the utilization of digitalization and the adoption of new technologies through research that is driven by business needs and supports business operations.
- The project’s technological goal is to accelerate the safe and effective adoption of generative AI (GenAI) and machine learning (ML) within the Finnish mechanical engineering industry. The project addresses the industry’s need to find practical ways to utilize new language models in production control, quality management, and occupational safety.
- A key objective of the project is to develop and pilot an integrated “PaJarvis AI assistant”—a conversational tool capable of supporting production operations and providing production-related information.
Results
The PaJarvis project generates both scientifically grounded research findings and industry-applicable solutions that integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning into the daily operations of machine shops. A tangible outcome of the project is the PaJarvis AI platform, which combines generative AI, a company-specific knowledge base, an ML experimentation environment, and an interface for programming and controlling production equipment. PaJarvis is an open, modular research platform that companies can continue to utilize even after the project concludes.
