Project description
RENATURE is an Erasmus+ project that focuses on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in addressing environmental challenges and supporting climate resilience. NbS are cost-effective solutions that require low or no levels of engineering and are entirely based on nature. They are particularly effective in fostering adaptation to climate change and the mitigation of its impacts, while also generating ecosystem services that benefit both biodiversity and human well-being.
The project brings together partners from 8 European countries to explore how Nature-based Solutions are researched, implemented, and applied in practice. By analysing experiences and promoting knowledge exchange, RENATURE contributes to improving awareness and understanding of NbS and their potential role in supporting sustainable development and climate adaptation.
Goals
The goal of the project is to transfer cutting-edge knowledge on sustainability and promote youth employability through innovative e-learning tools. In broad sense, the project aims to develop an integrated, interactive and multidisciplinary teaching program consisting of a toolkit of Open Educational Resources (OER) designed to provide final beneficiaries with state-of-the-art knowledge on the various NbS types, their purposes, and their potential fields of application in natural, semi-natural, and anthropized environments.
The project will strengthen understanding of how NbS contribute to sustainable development. The training materials developed within the project are structured around the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability, helping participants explore the role of NbS in climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as their contribution to improving ecosystem services and citizens’ quality of life.
In addition, RENATURE aims to support education and skills development related to the green transition by promoting knowledge transfer and practical learning. Through dedicated learning modules and interactive digital tools, the project enables users to assess their knowledge, develop competences related to environmental sustainability, and better understand the practical implementation and co-management of Nature-based Solutions.
Results
- RENATURE will produce several key outputs: Comparative Report on best practices in the development and application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) identified in the EU countries of the partnership, which have been selected as European frontrunners in the field.
- Introductory Teaching Programme: A digital training programme introducing the role of NbS in addressing environmental, economic and social challenges linked to climate change.
- Advanced Teaching Programme: A specialised programme presenting selected NbS that can be applied in natural, semi-natural and urban environments, with attention to implementation methods and co-management approaches.
- Digital Application: An interactive application allowing users to complete exercises and evaluate their knowledge and skills related to NbS and environmental sustainability.
