Project coordinator: VAMK
Funding: ERDF of the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia
Project Description
Developing the port innovation ecosystem in Vaasa is vital for achieving the strategic goals of the region’s industry, logistics, and city. The completed joint project “Sustainable and Smart Future Port” identified and prioritized key development needs for the Vaasa port innovation ecosystem. Stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem emphasized the need for concrete actions in sustainable logistics, port and charging infrastructure, energy solutions, as well as collaboration and communication.
Within the framework of Vaasa’s ecosystem agreement, the project “Port as an Innovation Platform for the Green Transition” has been launched, implemented in collaboration with Vaasan Satamapalvelut, VASEK, and the Design Centre MUOVA at VAMK. The project strengthens the role of the port as an enabler of the green transition by developing the port ecosystem into a sustainable innovation ecosystem.
Objectives
The objective of the project is to develop and pilot a sustainable port innovation platform and the collaborative model at its core. The innovation platform will accelerate the development and commercialization of sustainable solutions related to logistics, energy, and real estate. The project will identify the most suitable methods and practices for co-creation at the port, while aiming to maximize the port’s overall impact.
Results
- A collaborative model for the innovation ecosystem and a visualized value proposition
- An investment plan for green transition projects
- Three pilot plans
- Three demonstrations of strategic pilots
