Why come to study in Vaasa?
Our university is located in the heart of Vaasa, which has more energy technology related companies than any other city in the Nordic countries. In our region, more than 160 companies work in the field of energy technology, and about 25 % of the employees of the Finnish energy sector work here. The overall turnover of these companies is about 5 billion euros annually, and therefore it is well justified to say that Vaasa keeps the wheels of Finland’s economy rolling!
Learning outcomes
This is an entrance examination course for UAS studies in VAMK (Vaasa University of Applied Sciences). After passing the course, and if the student is eligible for UAS studies and fulfills the language requirements, the student can apply for the Bachelor’s degree program in Information Technology through separate application in spring 2024 (for the autumn 2024 intake).
- After this course the student will have preparatory skills for studies at UAS level in the field of information technology engineering. The course consists of basic studies in mathematics, physics and information technology
- In the mathematics part of the course, we will take into consideration topics such basic arithmetics (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of integers), decimal numbers, properties and basic operations of fractions, exponentiation and extraction of roots, calculating percentages, basic algebra, functions, polynomials, first order and quadratic equations, and basics of geometry and trigonometry.
- The physics part consists of kinematics (displacement, position, velocity), dynamics (forces, Newton II in 1D, acceleration), and kinetic and potential energy (power, work, energy).
- In the information technology part, we will learn the basics of procedural programming: variables, loops, if statements, operators and functions.
