The current Energy Technology program generated significant international interest, with a total of almost 5 000 applications

In the autumn joint application for higher education institutions, the most popular degree program in Vaasa University of Applied Sciences was the English-taught Engineering program, Energy Technology, with a total of 4 970 applicants.

The joint application period for universities ended on September 14, 2023, at 3 pm. Vaasa University of Applied Sciences offered a total of 210 study places for two Bachelor level and three Master level programs. In the joint application, VAMK received a total of 5 594 applications.

Preliminary information suggests that nationally, there were a total of 56 089 applicants in the joint application for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at all Finnish universities.

Applicants found the Energy Technology program the most attractive

The most popular degree program at VAMK in this joint application was the Bachelor level Engineering program Energy Technology. Out of all the applications, 85 % were directed to this program, with a significant number of applications coming from Asia.

”Energy Technology is organised for the second time and it clearly interests applicants both internationally and nationally. We are extremely pleased with the number of applications and happy with the diverse backgrounds of the applicants”, says Juha Vierola, Head of VAMK’s student services.

“The number of applicants from our target markets, India and UAE, increased and this is thanks to effective agent cooperation”, rejoices VAMK’s Head of Communications and Marketing, Sirpa Rutanen.

New requirements for admission

It is worth noting, that the admission requirements changed from previous years for this round of the national joint application. The most significant changes were the introduction of language certificate and biometric passport. These conditions are a prerequisite for entering the entrance exam and they apply to all Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland.

The students selected through the joint application process will commence their studies in January 2024

The entrance exams for Bachelor level studies will be held on November 1st. The details regarding the exam sessions and locations as well as more information can be found on Studyinfo.fi.

The results of the autumn 2023 joint application will be published no later than on November 24th. Acceptance of the study placement must be confirmed by December 1st at 3 pm. Acceptance from the waiting list will close on December 12th at 3 pm.

The selected students will start their studies in January 2024 at the Palosaari campus or online.
