Applicant can be admitted to Bachelor’s or Master’s (UAS) degree at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences when the following criteria is met:

Bachelor's Degree (until 31.7.2026)
  • Open UAS path and studies completed with separate right to study: Applicant has completed at least 50 (ECTS credits) at Open UAS by the submission date of the application. Studies should be applicable and transferrable to the degree in which applicant applies for. Studies completed in all Universities of Applied Sciences are accepted.
  • In the field of social- and health care prerequisite for admission (can be) a passed aptitude test in addition to completed study path. Result of the aptitude test is valid for one admission round.   In the field of social and health care applicants health condition should be such that student is able to participate in practical task and training included in studies.
  • Applicant should have sufficient success in studies and readiness to complete the degree within the remaining study time.  As a rule studies at Open UAS should not be older than 2 years.
  • Upper Secondary Education path:  15 cr of separately specified studies  are required for admission.  Applicant is eligible to apply when He/She is currently enrolled, or has graduated from upper secondary school within 1 year from the point of submitting an application.
  • Athlete path: 30 cr degree specific studies  are required for admission.
  • Higher education preparatory program for immigrants: 30 cr degree specific studies  are required for admission.
  • Pathway programmes:  The scope of studies (ECTS credits) will be agreed separately. Admission is conditional until pathway programme is succesfully completed.

 

 

Master's Degree (until 31.7.2026)
  • Applicant can apply for study right for Master (UAS) degree when at least 15 ECTS credits have been completed at the Open UAS, or through non-stop path.
  • Studies should be applicable and transferrable to the degree in which applicant applies for. Studies completed in all Universities of Applied Sciences are accepted.
  • Additionally subsequent bachelor’s degree and at least 2 -years subsequent work experience in a related field after completing the  bachelor degree is required. (Polytechnic Act 20§).

 

Bachelor's Degree (starting from 1.8.2026)
  1. Pathway studies in business, technology and social and health care (15 credits): the applicant has completed separately defined pathway studies of at least 15 credits at VAMK’s Open University of Applied Sciences. Right to apply: no more than 1 year after completing the upper secondary qualification, or the studies have been paid for with a study voucher. Upon completion of the pathway, the right to study (to a degree) is granted on the basis of education-specific studies, including the various implementation methods available (full-time studies, blended studies, online implementation). Student admissions are conditional until the required number of credits has been completed and assessed in the student management system (Peppi)
  2. Campus path: The applicant has completed at least 30 credits of education-specific studies at VAMK’s Open University of Applied Sciences.
  3. Open path studies: The applicant has completed at least 30 credits of education-specific studies at the Open University of Applied Sciences. Studies completed at all open universities of applied sciences are accepted.
Master's Degree (starting from 1.8.2026)
  1. An applicant can apply for the right to study for a Master’s degree when they have completed a path at an Open University of Applied Sciences or at least 15 credits in pathway studies.
  2. The studies must be studies that are suitable for the education you are applying for and that can be credited,
  3. Studies completed at all open universities of applied sciences are accepted in path studies. In the Master School route, eligibility is determined through VAMK’s separately defined studies.
  4. An applicant applying for a master’s degree must have an applicable higher education degree/post-secondary or vocational higher education degree in accordance with section 25 of the Universities of Applied Sciences Act, as well as at least two years of work experience in the field in question acquired thereafter.
  5. An applicable basic education for a master’s degree is interpreted from the valid admission criteria of the joint application process.
  6. The university of applied sciences also accepts work experience acquired after a previously completed post-secondary or vocational higher education degree before the higher education degree as work experience.
General Information (starting from 1.8.2026)
  • In the social and health care sector, participation in an aptitude test may be required. The result of the aptitude test is only valid for one application. The applicant’s state of health and functional capacity must be such that the student is able to carry out practical tasks and practical training related to the studies.
  • The university of applied sciences reserves the right to limit the number of applicants admitted to degree programmes, taking into account the group size in different implementation methods.
  • Student selection through path and route studies is conditional. The completed studies must be assessed in the student management system no later than 31.1.2027 (studies starting in the spring) or 31.7.2027 (studies starting in the autumn).
  • The application (for the degree) takes place during the application periods announced by the university of applied sciences in Studyinfo.

The transition to degree studies takes place at the beginning of the semester (1.1. and 1.8.).

Degree right always starts at the commencement of semester (1.1. and 1.8). In case there are more applicants to be admitted than available study places, order of the selection is determined by the mean grade of completed studies at Open UAS.

One study place per term provision applies to all higher education (joint applications and separate applications). According to this provision, student can only accept one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland in education that starts in the same academic term.

Tuition fee will be collected from non-EU/EEA citizens who apply for the degree programmes conducted in English language . This also concerns students admitted through Open UAS study path.
