VAMK builds on years of pioneering work in technical education
Technical education has a long history in Vaasa, dating back to 1849 when the Technical School (Teknillinen reaalikoulu), one of the first in Finland was established. The roots of internationalisation in technical education in Vaasa stretch far back in history. As early as 1900, Vaasa Industrial School gained global recognition when its students’ technical drawings were awarded at the Paris Exposition.
In the 1990s, Vaasa Institute of Technology became the first in Finland to launch an English-language bachelor’s degree program in electrical engineering, the Degree Programme in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Vaasa is home to the most important energy technology hub in Finland and the Nordic countries, and a large number of international export companies. The 160 companies in the hub export products and solutions all over the world and repatriate a significant part of global energy investments to Finland. EnergyVaasa is responsible for a third of Finland’s total energy technology exports and employs a quarter of the total workforce.

At VAMK, you can study the topics of the future: circular economy, energy storage and battery technology in a new, English-language course. The studies will prepare battery experts who are in high demand in companies in the Vaasa region.
