Project description

In recent years, the need for telephone-based care needs assessment has grown rapidly, placing new kinds of demands on acute care personnel. This change has created a need to develop staff competencies and to support their well-being at work. The project addresses this need by developing a digital EtänäHyvin training model that supports continuous learning and helps acute care staff manage the physical and psychological workload of their work, while also strengthening their competencies related to remote assessment.

The training model will be designed in close collaboration with staff from the wellbeing services counties of Southwest Finland, Satakunta, and Ostrobothnia, using service design methods. As a foundation for the work, both a literature-based review and interviews and workshops exploring staff experiences will be conducted, to ensure that the training content responds as accurately as possible to real needs.

Goals

The project has 3 main objectives, the achievement of which will be measured quantitatively and qualitatively:

  • To develop and pilot a training model for remote assessment and counselling of acute care staff that promotes competence and well-being at work.
  • Increase the management of physical and psychosocial risks in the work of acute staff who carry out remote assessment and counselling
  • Disseminate good practice in support of well-being at work of acute staff performing remote assessment and supervision nationwide in Finland by producing an openly available training model

Results

As a result of the project, a practical and applied framework will be created that brings together the experiences of professionals conducting remote assessments regarding work-related stressors and resources, and offers tools for managing them. Based on this, a digital training model will be developed to support staff in improving their competencies independently and in a sustainable, long-term manner.

Feedback collected during the pilot phase and the results of surveys will demonstrate the training’s impact on managing work-related workload, and the model will be refined on the basis of these findings. The completed training will remain in use by the wellbeing services counties as part of continuing professional development and can also be integrated into the curricula of universities of applied sciences. In the long term, the goal is for improved staff well-being to be reflected in higher-quality client work, longer careers, and increased attractiveness of the field.
