Project description

The Room for Cultures project strengthens participation, well-being, and intercultural dialogue in the regions of South Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. The provinces share a common goal: to increase their attractiveness and retention power by offering diverse culture, accessible services, and opportunities for genuine encounters. The project creates space for people from different backgrounds to express themselves and strengthens their role as members of society.

Goals

The four main goals of the project:

  1. Increased participation and cultural well-being in the context of cultural diversity.
  2. A multi-stakeholder strategic partnership operating model.
  3. Accessible and multidisciplinary services that support cultural well-being and integration, and related expertise.
  4. Operating models for the target group’s participation in the planning and decision-making of arts, culture, and well-being services.

All measures in the project emphasize the active participation of the target group. Experiential knowledge, co-development, and immigrants’ own organizations play a key role.

Results

As a result of these measures, the attractiveness and retention power of the area will improve, as newcomers will feel welcome and find it easier to integrate into the local community. Intercultural interaction will increase – for example, international students will integrate better with other students. Attitudes towards different cultures will become more positive, and cultural services will become more equal, accessible, and barrier-free. Immigrants will have greater opportunities to participate in service planning and decision-making. Cultural well-being expertise will grow in both provinces, and events and services will be open and accessible to all. The project will particularly support the participation and integration of immigrant women into the local community.
