Project description

In the project, a multidisciplinary training package is developed and implemented to strengthen industry competence and renewal in sustainable development. The training advances the employment of those with higher education and the skills of those who are currently working. After the training, the participants have expertise in sustainable development and circular economy, carbon-neutral society, and ecological product development, as well as the development of life-cycle services. The purpose of the project is to build VAMK’s carbon-neutral expertise into a 25-credit training package and offer it nationwide to strengthen the skills of company employees and unemployed job seekers in various fields. The training package is implemented as a multi-modal education, enabling studying alongside work or job search.

Goals

VAMK’s goal is to develop continuous learning paths that support industrial renewal and sustainable development. The project is a significant measure in the development of continuing education and open higher education. The training reinforces the competence of technology, business administration and design at the interfaces of these skills.

VAMK currently offers three separate courses:

  • Carbon-neutral society, 3 credits
  • Sustainable development and circular economy, 5 credits
  • Product design, 4 credits

In the Carbon-neutral industry project, the courses are expanded to 5 credit courses

In addition, the contents of the courses are developed in a way that they form an independent entity, and they can be offered to engineering students as continuing education and open education to those who have obtained a university degree in a suitable field. The trainings expanse is 25 credits, and the target number of participating students is 50 beginners.

Results

The project renews industry in sustainable development. The project responds to the competence needs related to sustainable development, the challenges of climate change and a carbon-neutral society, and it aims to strengthen the industry’s ability to recover after the COVID-19 pandemic in a new green wave.

The outcome of the project is the Carbon Neutral Industry training program, which includes courses and training material for distance learning. The training is carried out both as distance learning through Campus Online and as face-to-face teaching at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.
