Student Computer Requirements
Our school uses a BYOD model (Bring Your Own Device), which means that students use their own laptops for classes and projects instead of school-owned devices. The BYOD approach enables smooth, modern, and flexible studying with your personal device, while the responsibility for the equipment remains with the student.
What does this mean in practice?
- Students must use their own laptop during classes.
- Having your own device is essential in order to participate in lessons and complete assignments independently.
- School loan devices are intended only for temporary use, for example if your own laptop is briefly unavailable.
Recommended Equipment
General requirements for all students
- 8 GB RAM
- Intel i3 or preferably i5 processor (or equivalent)
- 128 GB SSD

- Webcam and microphone (for distance learning and project work)
- Operating system: Windows 11 recommended
Additional requirements for engineering students
- 16 GB of RAM
- Battery life of at least 2–3 hours

About Operating Systems
Windows 11 is the recommended operating system as it is the most compatible with the school’s software and services. If you are using a Mac or another operating system, it can usually be used for studies, but in some cases you may encounter compatibility issues that the student is responsible for solving independently.
If you need more information, you can contact the school’s IT support at helpdesk@vamk.fi or ask your teacher.
